A customized guitar for a famous singer and a piece of art on display at a hotel chain: projects in partnership
Luthier Lineu Bravo has got a piece of art with his portrait, made by his friend Felipe Rezende, a talented visual artist that tries to express people’s emotion when painting them. Lineu’s portrait was created after a photo session that they made together: “I gave it to him as a gift, on a piece of wood, which is the substance of his work”, says Felipe.

This piece of art with Lineu’s face is also on display at a famous hotel chain. Felipe started a partnership with “Hotel Ibis” in 2016, when he took part in a revitalization project in Taubaté, São Paulo, with two other professionals: architect Carol Miranda and a furniture restorer. On the occasion, the visual artist developed the wall painting there.
After this project, Felipe received an invitation to work in another hotel named “Ibis Styles”, in São Paulo. Felipe chose his friends’ portraits, such as Lineu Bravo piece of art, to put on the toilet doors of the hotel.

Luthier and visual artist thinking together: Lineu Bravo and Felipe Rezende conceived a project to customize musical instruments for artists, such as Brazilian singer Zélia Duncan. The idea and the art for Zélia’s guitar were created by the luthier and the visual artist in 2015 and 2016.
Felipe Rezende said that the partnership with Lineu started when they got closed thanks to a graphite that he had painted at Lineu’s house. “We ended up becoming friends and one day he told me about this idea of customizing some instruments for artists”.
They worked for 6 months and, during this period, they thought about theme, image, concept, and researched a lot of facts about Zélia’s life. The artist tells how the process was: “We have found out that she was a Joni Mitchell fan, so we started the production: Me, at my atelier, and Lineu at his workshop. He handed me the guitar so I could draw and write poetry excerpts inside the box. When he finished the guitar, he gave it to me so I could paint outside, too. I painted Joni Mitchell portrait on the front side and decided to paint Zélia’s image on the back side, because I had found a beautiful picture of her in which she seems to hold a guitar as a gift. After that, Lineu finished the instrument with a varnish layer and gave me the case, so I splashed it with ink.”. In October 2016, Lineu Bravo went to Zélia’s concert and gave her the gift.

Felipe Rezende, (ifi)
Felipe is an architect and also teaches at a Brazilian University named “Anhanguera”, in Taubaté, city of São Paulo. He is also a researcher at University of Taubaté.
Felipe gives cultural workshops at schools and owns a workshop named “Casa Oficina”, in Taubaté, where he lives and develops his visual art projects.
The artist expresses his ideas through words, painting, walls, tissues, ground and canvas.

Zélia Duncan is a phenomenon as a high-selling singer/composer and has sold 160,000 copies of her Zélia Duncan album. Since 1994, she has been a major national success, touring through countries of Europe in 1996 and also winning awards from critics in Brazil.

The musician Daniel Marques, who has built an incredible career, makes all the Brazilians and luthier Lineu Bravo very proud. He has founded a Brazilian music program at Global Music Academy (Berlin, Germany), where he is a teacher. Apart from that, he is a producer at Brazilian Explorative Music Festival.
Daniel Marques collects important music awards – he was one of the best musicians of the year in Brazil, in 2015, and won the biggest music award as a producer at Brazilian Music Award, in 2010. Daniel also won The Akademia Music Awards, in L.A for the best instrumental composition, in 2016.
The musician has been playing and recording in partnership with renowned Brazilian artists, such as: Paulo Moura, Carlos Malta, Thiago Amud, Robertinho Silva, Zé Paulo Becker, Guinga, Yamandu Costa, Randy Brecker, Stanley Jordan, John Williams, Paco de Lucia and Charlie Hunter.

Daniel plays an instrument made by the luthier Lineu Bravo in 2010. The 7-string guitar has a Canadian cedar top and Jacaranda Back.

The musician, who is releasing a new album named ‘O Alvorecer’ in partnership with Sai Conde, also left a testimonial about Lineu Bravo guitar
Guilherme Lamas and his Lineu Bravo guitar
Playing a Lineu Bravo guitar, the musician Guilherme Lamas is releasing, this year, his new album named “O Alvorecer”, in honor of the Brazilian composer Ernesto Nazareth. Guilherme, since 2015, has been playing in a duo with the Colombian Sai Conde, who plays a mandolin made by the luthier Diego Valencia.
They started playing together when Guilherme and Sai Conde met each other in Barão Geraldo, near Unicamp (University of Campinas), where both do a master’s degree.

In this new album, the mandolin is the soloist and the 7-string steel guitar made by Lineu Bravo plays the support and also the melodies of the lowest-sounding timbres of the instrument.
The musicians are performing the release show in a different way, playing unknown music. The idea is to play the material that has been studied at the university. For this reason, Guilherme is playing his Lineu Bravo guitar all over Brazil.

Guilherme Lamas and his Lineu Bravo guitar
Guilherme Lamas, musician and researcher at University of Campinas, plays a 7-string steel Lineu Bravo Guitar Rogério Caetano model that he purchased in 2016.
The musician got to know some nylon Lineu Bravo guitars in 2005, when he studied at Tatuí Conservatorium. Back then, he played some renowned artists instruments: Rafael Thomaz, Alessandro Penezzi, Maurício Carrilho, Paulo Aragão.
Guilherme found everything he was looking for: “In 2010, I started studying more the 7-string steel guitar and I was looking for the perfect instrument for me regarding timbre, volume, stability, playability and tuning. Lineu Bravo guitar had everything that I wanted since I like to play at the highest-sounding timbres.”

The “City of Light”, as Paris is affectionately known, is a symbol of French and World culture, bringing over more than 30 million visitors and standing out in fashion, art and culture scenarios. A lot of artistic movements, such as expressionism and surrealism were born there, and also, important characters of art and philosophy - René Descartes, Voltaire, Victor Hugo, Émile Zola, Simone de Beauvoir e Edith Piaf.
The city also has received many foreign artists, such as Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Ernest Hemingway, Gabriel García Márquez, Mario Vargas Llosa, Francis Scott Fitzgerald, Joyce and Oscar Wilde.
Over the years, Brazilian music has been strongly disseminated in Paris by talented Brazilian artists who ended up spreading their music over there. Mauricio Carrilho, brilliant violonist, is one of the names that has already performed and recorded in the city.
Mauricio Carrilho Career
Mauricio Carrilho was born in Rio de Janeiro. He is a musician, producer, and a popular Brazilian song researcher. He is also a Lineu Bravo’s client. He started his career in 1977, taking part of many musical groups such as “Carioquinhas” and “O Trio”.
In the late 90’s, Mauricio established a record label with Luciana Rabello, the “Acarei Records”, where he has been doing a great research about Choro.
The musician also develops a great work on education, travelling around Brazil, attending workshops based on Choro (the first popular Brazilian music genre).

In 1993, he founded the group “O Trio”, in which he acted as violinist alongside with Paulo Sérgio Santos, who played the clarinet and Pedro Amorim playing the mandolin. The group recorded, in Paris, their first record, also in 1993.
Mauricio Carrilho has already performed at the Theatre Des Champs Elysées, in Paris, with the conductor Kurt Masur, performing “Suíte para Violão de Sete Cordas e Orquestra”. The same composition has also been performed by Yamandu Costa, with the Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra, conducted by Roberto Minczuc.

Mauricio got a Lineu Bravo guitar in 2006, a 7-string guitar with Canadian cedro top.
At the time, he gave his instrument to an Australian friend, the musician Doug De Vries, who played the guitar and felt in love with it, but he could not wait his own to be ready. Mauricio says he did it because he was sure he would receive an instrument as good as the one he had.
So, Lineu Bravo made a second guitar for him, just like the another one.

Since then, the musician has been disseminating his talent around the world, including Paris. So, the Brazilian music has been very well represented out there, with a Lineu Bravo guitar.
