Learn more about the career of these talented musicians that play Lineu Bravo instruments
Lucas Melo, musician from Curitiba and Francisco Solano, musician from Maranhão and member of a Choro group founded in 1973 called “Regional Tira Teima”, both Lineu Bravo’s clients, have recently met in Curitiba. On that occasion, they played their 7-string guitar made by the luthier.
About the meeting, Lucas Melo says: “I met Francisco in 2017, when he went to Curitiba with his group “Regional Tira Teima”. On that occasion, I had the opportunity to play with them. I really got along with Solano and we played a great sound together. He is very nice and knows everything about 7-strings.”
Lucas Melo
Musician from Curitiba, he is guitarist and plays 7-string guitar. He is a member of a group called “Conjunto Choro e Seresta”, he also teaches at Curitiba Conservatorium of Music.
Lucas studied at Jean Jacques Rousseau school and at Curitiba Conservatorium of Music, where he developed, with musicians Sergio Albach and Claudio Menandro, the language of the Choro and the Brazilian guitar. In 2015, he recorded an instrumental album called “Papo Xara” with the musician Lucas Miranda.
As a teacher, he was invited to teach at the Choro Workshop of the Paraná Arts College (2011), at Curitiba Conservatorium of Music. (2012) and at EPM Rotterdam (2015).
He has already performed in Brazil and in many other countries in partnership with musicians such as: Rogério Souza, Mario Seve, Antônio Rocha, Ronaldo do Bandolim, Dirceu Leite, Ana Paula da Silva, Ceumar, Toninho Carrasqueira, Joao Macacão, Rafael Toledo, Sérgio Albach, Julião Boêmio, Daniel Migliavacca,
Lucas is also a producer in Curitiba.
Lucas Melo and Lineu Bravo Guitar
Lucas purchased a 7-string guitar made by luthier Lineu Bravo in 2010, however it was stolen in 2011. The musician got the guitar back in 2016.
Lucas got to know about Lineu’s work through another Lineu Bravo’s clients, such as Marco Pereira and Rogério Caetano.
Lucas Melo left a testimonial about his instrument, a 7-string guitar: “Lineu’s instrument is unique, with a wonderful timbre. After I started playing it I didn’t want any other. In 2011, I was mugged and the guitar was taken by the thief. But five years later I got it back.”
Francisco Solano
Francisco Solano’s hobby is the music. He is a member of a group called “Tira Teima”, a traditional Choro group in Maranhão.
He is the president of Maranhão Choro Club, and he plays the 7-string guitar.
Franciso gave an interview to the website “O Imparcial” saying he believes that the “roda de choro” (the musical groups that play Choro are called ‘Rodas de Choro’) is the biggest school: “Rodas de Choro are the school of Choro. You can go to the music school to develop technique, but the school of Choro is the ‘roda’, there is no other way. The Choro emerged this way and that’s how it has value, as I see.”
Francisco has also talked about his biggest musical reference, Dino 7-string: “Dino is my big reference, and I had the pleasure to talk to him. Dino is the biggest 7-string reference. I think the 7-string only exists because of him. He created the way to play it.”
The musician said he appreciates other new musicians work, such as: Gian Correa, from São Paulo, Rogério Caetano, also Lineu Bravo’s client, Zé Barbeiro and Luiz Filipe. According to Francisco, the most frequently played guitar in Brazil is the 7-string: “There are so many good musicians nowadays, wherever you go.”

Lineu Bravo describes some famous clients’ peculiarities.
Luthier Lineu Bravo has a unique way of working. He can, on his own way, understand the vibration of the wood intuitively, and that’s his main tool.
Lineu explains that the search for distinctive clients is very important to obtain a great outcome at his detailed work: “As time goes by, I carried on looking for demanding musicians, so my work always keeps evolving. It is very interesting how expectations and needs from different musicians can change according to the music style. This fact leads me to make extremely high quality instruments.”

Guinga
Talented Guinga is one of the greatest Brazilian songwriter of all time, respected by all Brazilian musicians: he plays the guitar, composes and sings. “Guinga is brilliant”, compliments luthier Lineu Bravo.
João Lyra
The musician was born in Brazil’s northeast and he knows all about all kinds of music. Lineu believes that his music is rich and great just because he has never abandoned his roots: “He knows all about universal music but he never left his roots behind.”
Chico Buarque
This Lineu Bravo’s client needs no introduction. The luthier explains his great honor: “The guitar is his partner. He composes to the guitar and I consider a great honor the fact that he plays a guitar made by me”.
Marcus Tardelli
Marcus is a guitar soloist that has reinvented the instrument. He has created a new way of playing it. Lineu Bravo explains it: “When the guitar is at his hands it turns into another instrument.”
Marco Pereira
Known worldwide, he is one of the greatest international Brazilian guitar references. Lineu says that he can play a lot of music styles very well: “He can be popular and erudite at the same time with considerable domain.”
Rogério Caetano
He represents the Choro and he can play all the music genres: “Today, he is one of the most requested Brazilian musicians.”
Hamilton de Holanda
Hamilton plays the mandolin and he has created a new instrument: the 10-string mandolin. He also plays other instruments such as the tenor guitar, just like the one Lineu has made for him. Nowadays, Hamilton plays all music genres.
Mauricio Carrilho and Luciana Rabello
They have been music partners for a long time: Mauricio playing a 7-string guitar and Luciana the cavaco. Both of them have Lineu Bravo instruments. They own a record label named Acari and also a music school. “A lot of people have studied there, so they help to keep the Choro alive in Brazil”, says Lineu.
João Bosco
João Bosco is one of the Brazilian Popular Music’s great names. He is reference not only as a singer and composer but also because of his peculiar way to play the guitar: “He has a unique way to play the guitar and he is very respected by all the musicians. He is a great composer and musician.”
Alessandro Penezzi
Talented and creative musician: “He is virtuous and creative with a great sensitivity. He uses the guitar in an impossible way to use it.”, says the luthier.
Fernando César
Careful and drafted musician, he is also a teacher in Brasília, teaching beginner musicians. “He is a great teacher, supports a lot of people. That’s why he is one of the great Brazilian Music promoters.”

The luthier made five instruments for the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (MCM) at the University of Melbourne. Check it out
Lineu Bravo built in 2016 five instruments to Melbourne University, Australia: a seven-string guitar, a tenor guitar, a cavaco, a mandolin and a caipira guitar, and they were sent to Melbourne Conservatorium of Music (MCM), where Doug de Vreis, also Lineu Bravo’s client, is the main teacher of Brazilian guitar in the contemporary guitar course.

The international order was placed by Ken Murray, teacher at Melbourne University, in November 2014. The main goal was to develop more ensemble arrangements for the students and to explore a wider range of instrument combinations.
The Release Concert
The Release Concert/Picture: Guitar Perspectives
In December 2016, the MCM set up a concert to showcase the new instruments.
The performance was led by Doug de Vries, and also counted on the teachers and students from the MCM, including Ken Murray, Adam May, Matt Hood, Alexandra Velasco-Svoboda and Jimmy O’Hare. The concert also coincided with an international symposium on the history of guitar.

Last April, the group Choro de Minas launched in Betim, city in Minas Gerais, a DVD called “Choro de Minas” at the Minas Gerais University Conservatorium. The quartet is composed by the musicians Dudu Braga (cavaco), Silvio Carlos (7-string guitar), Ramon Braga (tambourine) and Marcos Flávio (trombone).
The DVD was recorded live at the “Casa de Cultura Josephina Bento”, in Betim. It contains authorial pieces and Choro classics on the repertoire and it has great relevance because of the lack of instrumental DVD’s of this type.
In May, the radio program Roda de Choro broadcast all the DVD songs. Also, the audio was retransmitted for more than 224 Brazilian radio programs, apart from Japan and Angola.

The Group
Composed by four of the greatest Choro artistis from Minas Gerais, the group celebrates its 10 years of activities and it has already performed in many national and international musical festivals. It was de first group of Minas Gerais that performed in the “Choro de Brasilia” club.

The quartet is composed by Dudu Braga (cavaco), musical producer, Marcos Flávio (trombone), teacher at the University of Minas Gerais, Silvio Carlos (7-string guitar), founder of a group called “Flor de Abacate” and Ramon Braga, multi-instrumentalist and Choro specialist.
Lineu Bravo Instruments
In the quartet, two of the members play Lineu Bravo instruments: Dudu Braga, a cavavo, which was delivered in 2014, and Silvio Carlos, two 7-string steel guitar Rogério Caetano model, delivered in 2014 and 2015.
